Discover the Power of Storytelling Through Music

An Unexpected Beginning

Burnett did not set out to become a lyricist.

In 2025, he wrote a love poem for his wife called Enduring Hearts.

He began wondering what the words might sound like as a song and decided to turn the poem into one. When friends heard the result, their response was enthusiastic: he should write more.

He took their advice.

The experience opened a creative path Burnett had never anticipated. He began looking at the extraordinary collection of people and experiences already surrounding him.

Those stories became the foundation of Witness: The First Album, a nine-song collection released in January 2026.

Why “Witness”

Burnett chose Witness as his artist name because it expresses the purpose behind his songwriting.

Christian faith runs through his work. In almost every song he writes, he incorporates some reference to his faith and the presence of Jesus in people's lives.

His songs do not avoid suffering. They address alcoholism, the loss of a child, Alzheimer's disease, the death of a military spouse, separation from family during military service, and the realities of growing older.

But suffering is not the final message.

Burnett seeks instead to write about what can sustain people through those experiences: love, faith, family, resilience, gratitude, friendship, hope, and the determination to continue living fully.

Through his songs, he hopes to bear witness to Jesus' love and to His presence and support during life's hardships.

The name Witness consequently works on two levels. Burnett is a witness to the people and experiences that have shaped his own life, but he also writes to bear witness to the Christian faith that has helped give those experiences meaning.

Parting Gift

My latest song about two friends and the gift one blesses the other with after his death.

Gruene Hall Nights

Good memories of tubing down the Guadelupe River and two-steppin' at Gruene Hall, Texas Hill Country fun.

Five Days

This song was written for my granddaughter, Hannah, who recently joined the US Army. It is a song about a female combatant on leave from the front line of the war against terrorism. She spends 5 Days enjoying a Caribbean island before heading back.

A Song for Andy

This song is in memory of my son, Andy, who was murdered at the age of 43. It tells the story of the joy and the tears he brought us as he battled with alcoholism. He is missed.

Enduring Hearts

This was my first song, based on a love poem I wrote to my wife. I put it to music, and friends encouraged me to write more songs. This song hopefully conveys my deep and everlasting love for Rebecca, my wife.

She Made It Through

My wife and I have supported an organization called Special Operations Fund, which provides financial help for Gold Star families. Through them, we met several brave women who lost their husbands and had to raise their children alone. This song is for them.

Autumn Leaves

This song was written for my mother-in-law, who has advanced Alzheimer's, and is in a memory care facility. A cruel disease, especially for the person's loved ones.

Blessed Silence

A veteran with PTSD finds peace by reconnecting with his Bible.

She is Worthy, She is Strong

A song about how the callousness of a father can affect a young daughter and haunt her, until she realizes she is loved unconditionally by another Father, the one of the Bible.

I'm Where I'm Meant to Be

A man looks back on his life and understands he is where he was meant to be. God had a plan for his life despite his heartbreak as a teenager.

The Barrel Racer

This song was written in honor of our good friend Toni, who still barrel races in her sixties, and is a coach to young girls in the sport.

Headin' to 30A

A song about the 30A region of the Florida panhandle, where we were fortunate to live for a few years.

I Ain't Done Yet

This was written for my spirited, spunky wife on the occasion of her 74th birthday.
